DG Communication awards grants to organisations and bodies that provide information on the EU to European Citizens. The objectives of EU funded communication projects are to provide general and coherent information on the European Union to the citizens of the Member states and to make citizens more aware of the main issues facing the Union. Awards for organisations in the different Member States of the EU are organised by the European Commission's Representations, details of which are provided below. 

The Work Programme for Grants and Contracts awarded by DG Communication, 2007 financial year provides more information on the EU's communication objectives and procedures for the application and payment of awards.

This was supplemented for the first time by Decision C(2007)3185 of 4 July 2007 with the addition of a part relating to the Pilot project on pilot information networks (RIP).

The foreseen adoption of the annual work programme in the field of communication for 2008 for the part of grants intended for the financing of the host structures of the EUROPE DIRECT relays of information throughout the territory of the Union was the subject of Decision C(2007) 3414 of 18 July 2007. This decision also modifies, for the second time, Decision C(2004) 2869 of 27 July 2004 concerning the implementation of the legal framework for grants awarded to the host-structures of the EUROPE DIRECT information relays for the period 2005-2008, as amended for the first time by Decision C(5462) of 17 November 2006.
